Her latest book: The Overtone Effect – Live Your Life on a High Note! is a proven, step-by-step system to maximize personal and organizational success. World-renowned thought leader Marshall Goldsmith said: “Jan Carley’s engaging book is filled with actionable advice…it will spur your creativity and curiosity, and help you become the person you want to be”.

With a foundation of 25 years working experience in the professional performing arts, Jan creatively leads and inspires individuals and groups to smash their limiting paradigms and open up transformative possibilities in their professional and personal lives. She uses her signature “overtone effect” system to tap into the core values and brilliance of her clients and working from the inside out, helps to catalyze significant sustainable results.

In addition, Jan has established an important niche globally as the “Inner Coach of Barbershop”. In that role, she has coached dozens of internationally competitive a cappella choruses, their leadership teams and thousands of singers worldwide to grow their personal and team cultures to ones of possibility and positivity with remarkable impact on their joy, growth, and success both on and off stage.

JAN-BITES

In Grade One, Jan’s music teacher labeled students according to how well they could sing. You were branded as a “Canary”, a “Robin”, or a “Crow”! The labels had crippling effects on her classmates, and years later the memory inspired Jan’s work in helping her clients eliminate limiting beliefs.

Jan’s acting career was cut short by her university acting professor who told her that she would “never be a serious actress and that she might be better off in comedy.”  The not-so-funny thing was, she believed him.

Jan really does believe that positivity breeds possibility. Often called a “Pollyanna”, she takes that to be the highest compliment.

Jan is passionate about the cause of Parkinson’s disease, having watched her mom courageously live with it for 13 years.

Jan’s family used to sing in the car on road trips. Her favourite song for many years was “The Booglie-Wooglie Piggy”. On those same car trips, Jan was always the one stuck in the middle in the back seat…interestingly, as an adult, she always requests an aisle seat.

Jan started singing Barbershop Harmony in 1995. She went to a rehearsal just to check it out…and was hooked in under an hour. She now sings with the award-winning Lions Gate Chorus of Vancouver, and also with her Christmas performance quartet, Fandango.
Jan’s most memorable phrase: FLIP IT! Those are the two words you need to know to shift your mindset from stuck (What I don’t want) to possibility (What I want)

Jan’s coaching business has taken her to AU, NZ, Scotland, England, Germany, and all over the US and Canada.

An accomplished author, Jan describes the writing process as “a long hike up a steep mountain. A lot of sweat, sore limbs, and cursing…but when you reach the top – the sense of satisfaction is huge and the view awe-inspiring.”

When asked why she loves coaching so much, Jan said; “It is thrilling for me to see the light bulbs go on for the people I coach and watch them open themselves up to possibility. If I can inspire and support people to step into their brilliance and create positive changes in their lives, then I am happy.”

Jan is a Master Certified Coach (MCC) credentialed with the International Coaching Federation, a Professional Mentor Coach and a Certified Facilitator of the Strengths Deployment Inventory (SDI) TM.  She is also Associate Faculty at Royal Roads University, and for more than a decade co-taught the coaching foundations and personal mastery components of their renowned Executive Coaching program.
